Prescriptions
Ordering a repeat prescription
- It will take us 72 hours (3 working days) to process your prescription request. Some requests may take longer.
- If you send your request after 3pm, we will help you the next working day.
- If you have more than one prescription, please order them all together.
- If you need any medicine that isn’t on your request form, write it down, and we will check with the doctor.
- You can ask for your medicine up to 2 weeks early.
- If you are going away, tell us your travel dates so we can make sure you have enough medicine.
- We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.

You can request your repeat prescription by:
- Use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- Use our online service
- Request using our online form
Order by post
You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription for the required medications to Northgate Medical Practice, Blean Branch Surgery or Chartham Surgery where it can also be processed, if you intend to collect it from there.
We can send the prescription to your home address, but remember to enclose a stamped, addressed envelope. You can, if you choose, collect your repeat prescription from the surgery.

Our dispensary
The Practice has facilities for the dispensing of prescriptions to residents of Blean and Rough Common at the Blean Surgery and Chartham at our Chartham Surgery.
Your local pharmacy
Pharmacy Ordering
Your pharmacy can also order your medication on your behalf. This saves you time and unnecessary visits to the Practice. Please contact the Pharmacy of your choice for more information if you wish to use this service.
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
